CHILDREN

 1. RUTGER JACOBSE

He had no birth or baptismal record. On 3 June 1646 at the Reformed Dutch
Church of New Amsterdam he married as her first husband TRYNTJE JANSE VAN
BREESTEDE, who had no birth or baptismal record, a daughter of Jan Jansen
Van breestede and Engeltje Jans. At the time of their marriage, Rutger
was described as being from Rensselaerswyck and Tryntje as being from
Breestede. Rutger embarked at the Texel in the ship Rennselaerwyck
(Skipper Jan Tiebkins) on 1 October 1636 for Fort Orange. Early on he
became an active businessman and prominent citizen of Beverwyck, owning
considerable real estate, and filling responsible offices in the community.
He was a brewer by trade and in partnership with Goosen Gerritse (Van
Schaick) rented the Patroon's brewery in 1649, at 450 guilders a year,
paying in addition one guilder for every ton of beer which they brewed.
This duty amounted in the first year to 330 guilders, and in the following
season they worked up 1500 skipples of malt. On 2 June 1656, he laid the
corner stone of the new church in Beverwyck. Besides various lots and
houses in the village, he owned in partnership with Andries Herbertsen
(Constapel), the island "obliquely over against Bethlehem" called
Pachonakellick, Mohikander's, or Constapel's Island; and was also owner and
master of the sloop Eyckenboom, plying between New Amsterdam and Beverwyck.
Upon his death prior to 9 December 1665, his gold, silverware, and jewels
brought at public sale 512 guilders. After Rutger's death, Tryntje married
in 1695 as her second husband Hendrick Janse Roseboom. She died at her son
Jacob's home in Rosendal, Ulster Co., NY. Jan Jansen Bleecker wrote upon
her death "...my wife's mother died in the lord ...at Rosendal at the
house of her son Jacob. She came to Kinnistgeghyoene on the 18th November
     ...and was sick three weeks."

     1. GRIETJEN RUTGERS, was born 16 September 1647 probably in Beverwyck, New
Netherlands. About 1667, probably in Albany, Albany Co., NY she
married JAN JANSE BLEECKER, who was born 9 July 1641 in Meppel,
Overyseel Province, Netherlands. Jan immigrated in 1658 and settled in
Fort Orange in that same year. He was a blacksmith by trade,
lieutenant of the militia in 1677, a deacon in the Reformed Church in
1678, magistrate from 1681-1687, captain of the militia in 1684,
alderman from 1687 to 1696, justice of the peace in 1685, 1690, 1691,
1697, and 1701, member of the provincial assembly from 1698 to 1700,
appointed with others by Jacob Leisler to superintend affairs at Albany
in 1690, Indian Commissioner in 1690, Recorder from 1696 to 1699 and
Mayor of Albany from 1700 to 1701. The Bleeker family Bible recorded
Grietjen's death as follows: "...our worthy mother...departed this
life, age 86 yrs. 1 month and 26 days-after having for 8 or 10 days
been afflicted with a pain in her breast ... which became so severe
that she died... During all which time she was resigned with a well-
grounded reliance upon God...She was buried on the 29th in our low
Dutch Church by the side of our worthy deceased father."

     2. ENGELTJE RUTGERS, was baptised 10 April 1650 at the Reformed Dutch
Church of New Amsterdam. Wit.: Jan Janszen, Teunis Jacobszen, and
Engel Jans. About 1668/71 she married MELGERT ABRAHAMSE VAN DEUSEN,
who was baptised (as MALCHUS) 6 March 1644 at the Reformed Dutch Church
of New Amsterdam (wit.: Jan Stephenszen, Cos Pieterszen, Anneken
Bogardus, and Lysbeth Dircks), a son of Abraham Pieterse Van Deusen and
Tryntie Melchiors. In 1688 he took the Oath of Allegiance in
Kinderhook. Engeltje died 11 July 1728. Melgert died 6 January
	 1741/42 in Papsknee, NY.

     3. JACOB RUTSEN, had no birth or baptismal record and was born about 1651.
About 1675 he married MARIA HANSEN BERGEN, who was baptised 8 October
1651 at the Reformed Dutch Church of New Amsterdam (wit.: Pieter
Corneliszen, Judith Joris, and Annetje Laurens), a daughter of Hans
Hansen Bergen and Sara Rapalje. Jacob died in 1730 at "his home" in
	 Rosendale.

     4. HARMEN RUTGERS, had no birth or baptismal record and was born about
1652 in Beverwyck, New Netherlands. He married CATARINA DE HOOGES,
who was born in 1647 in Beverwyck, a daughter of Anthony De Hooges and
Aefje Albertse Bradt. Harmen was a brewer. In 1675 he sold his
brewery to Goosen Gerritse Van Schaick and Pieter Lansingh. In 1678,
Richard Pretty, collector of the excise, complained of him for
defrauding the excise and selling beer to the Indians, but after
considerable litigation the complaint was dismissed.
