    Notes:  John Denman, along with John Scudder, John Coe, Richard Betts,
	    Samuel Toe, George Sergeant, and Thomas Reede, purchased land from
	    the Indian chiefs Wamatupa, Wozone, and Powatahuman on 3 Oct. 1662.
	    This was a neck of meadow land commonly called by the English
	    "Plunder's Neck" and was known as the English Kills.  It lay on the
	    south side of Long Island, bounded on the east side by the river
	    Hohosboco, with a small brook on the west running into the river.
	    Because of disputed ownership of these lands and because of strict
	    religious laws imposed by the English governors, John moved his
	    family to Westfield, Essex Co., NJ.  He did return to Newtown where
	    he was appointed as a Surveyor of Highways there on 6 Apr. 1708.
	    After his death, his widow sold her property there and returned to
	    NJ.  The will of John Denman, of Newtown, dated 13 Dec. 1713 (?) and
	    proved 1 Mar. 1714, left his estate to his wife Mary during her
	    widowhood, with the remainder to sons John, William, Philip, and
	    Thomas; personal estate to daughters Martha, Mary, and Elizabeth;
	    to son John "my musket as a birthright."  Executors were wife Mary
	    and brother-in-law Jeremiah Genung of Flushing.  Wit.:  Samuel
	    Schuder, Jacob Reeder, and John Gunnell.

 Children:  1.  MARTHA DENMAN, had no birth or baptismal record and was b. abt.
		1691 in Newtown, Long Island, NY.  Abt. 1733 she mar. JOHN CORY,
		who was b. in 1703, a son of John Cory and Priscilla (__) of
		Southold, Long Island.  John was an elder in the Presbyterian
		Church of Westfield, NJ.  Martha died 24 Sept. 1777; John died
		8 Aug. 1768, and both were buried in the old churchyard in
		Westfield.

	    2.  MARY DENMAN, had no birth or baptismal record and was b. abt.
		1694 in New town, Long Island, NY.  On 2 Jan. 1716 she mar. as
		her first husband PHILLIP BROOKS.  She is thought to have mar.
		as her second husband (__) BERIS.  Mary died 8 Aug. 17(_)8.

	    3.  MARY DENMAN, had no birth or baptismal record and was b. abt.
		1697 in New town, Long Island, NY.  She mar. (__) CALDWELL.
		Mary witnessed the will of Joseph Campbell in 1750.

	    4.  JOHN DENMAN, had no birth or baptismal record and was b. abt.
		1700 in Westfield, Essex Co., NJ.  In 1721/22 in Westfield he
		mar. MARY ELIZABETH WILLIAM, who was b. in 1700.  Mary died
		27 Mar. 1762.

	    5.  WILLIAM DENMAN, had no birth or baptismal record.

	    6.  PHILIP DENMAN, had no birth or baptismal record.

	    7.  THOMAS DENMAN, had no birth or baptismal record.

    Notes:  They lived in Derby, Ct, where Philip was frequently mentoned as a
	    free-holder.  In 1681 he owned five tracts of land.  On 1 Oct. 1683,
	    he and Francis French took an inventory of the estate of John
	    Jackson, of New Haven, CT.  Philip's will was dated 20 Aug. 1698.

 Children:  1.  MARY DENMAN, was b. in Apr. 1678.

	    2.  ELIZABETH DENMAN, was b. in July 1680 in Derby, New Haven Co.,
		CT.  On 27 Dec. 1704 she mar. ZACHARIAH BLACKMAN (or BLAKEMAN),
		of Stratford.  Elizabeth died 23 Mar. 1731/32.

	    3.  SARAH DENMAN, was b. 15 Sept. 1682.  On 18 Dec. 1707 in
		Stratford, Fairfield Co., CT, she mar. THOMAS BEARDSLEY.

	    4.  MICAH DENMAN, had no birth or baptismal record and was b. abt.
		1684.  Micah's will, dated 5 Feb. 1763 and proved in May 1769,
		named his nephew, John Coe, of Derby, as his heir.

	    5.  HANNAH DENMAN, had no birth or baptismal record and was b. abt.
		1688.
