NOTES:  Ghislain and Adrienne were more commonly known in New Amsterdam as
	Guleyn and Adriaantje.  Adreinne married as her second husband Jan
	Jansen Damen.  They were received into the Walloon Church of Leyden "by
	confession" in October 1618.

 Children:  1.  GRIETJE VOLKERTSEN, had no birth or baptismal record and was b.
		abt. 1631, prob. in New Amsterdam.  She mar. as her first
		husband JAN HERMENSEN SCHUT, who was b. abt. 1638 in Lubeck
		(Germany).  He was originally a soldier turned trader and was
		killed by the Indians in 1652.  She mar. as her second husband
		JAN NAGEL, who had no birth or baptismal record and was b. in
		Limburg, Netherlands.  He was originally a soldier turned trader
		and was killed by the Indians abt. 1658.  She mar. as her third
		husband and as his first wife BARENT GERRITSEN, who had no birth
		or baptismal record and was poss. b. abt. 1630 in Zwolle,
		Netherlands, a son of Gerret Hendricksen.  Barent immigrated to
		New Amsterdam from Zwolle arriving prior to 1649.  He was a
		tailor and was one of 22 men selected to establish Bushwyck,
		Kings Co., New Amsterdam, in 1660.  In 1662 he was a drummer in
		the militia, poor master in 1664, magistrate in 1665, and
		constable in 1667.  In 1671 Barent made a gift deed for his
		children by Grietje which noted her poor health.  Grietje's
		father was one of the guardians for the children.  Barent and
		his second wife, Marritje Hendricks moved to the Dutch
		settlements in Delaware abt. 1676 but had returned to New York
		by 1683 where they were living with Femmetje, his daughter by
		his first wife, and her husband.  Then they returned to Bushwyck
		where Barent died in 1708.

	    2.  MAGDALENA VOLKERTSEN, had no birth or baptismal record and was
		b. abt. 1636 in Brooklyn, New Amsterdam.  On 24 Oct. 1652 she
		mar. as her first husband CORNELIS HENDRICKSEN, who was from
		Dort, Netherlands.  He died 15 Sept. 1655 in Manhatten, New
		Netherlands.  With banns published 3 Mar. 1656/57 at the
		Reformed Dutch Church of New Amsterdam she mar. as her second
		husband HARMEN HENDRICKSEN ROSENCRANS, who had no birth or
		baptismal record and was b. abt. 1612, prob. in Bergen, Norway,
		a son of Hendrick Hermense Rosecrans and (poss.) Annatje.
		Harmen died in 1697 in Rochester, Ulster Co., NY.  Magdalena
		died 17 Jan. 1725/26 in Kingston, Ulster Co., NY.

	    3.  SARA VOLKERTSEN, had no birth or baptismal record but was
		probably born about 1638.  A Sara Dirck de Noorman had a child
		named SARA baptised 21 Dec. 1659 at the Reformed Dutch Church of
		New York.  There was neither father nor sponsors listed for this
		entry.

	    4.  RACHEL VOLKERTSEN, was bap. 8 Sept. 1641 at the Reformed Dutch
		Church of New Amsterdam.  Wit.:  Abraham Isacszen Plancke,
		Laurens Pieterszen, and Adriana Van Tienhoven.  With banns
		published 11 Nov. 1663 at the Reformed Dutch Church of New
		Amsterdam she mar. JEAN LEQUIER, who was recorded in the banns
		as "Jan Escuyer de Parys, op Boswyck."  Jean died abt. 1713.

	    5.  VOLKERT VOLKERTSEN, was bap. 15 Nov. 1643 at the Reformed Dutch
		Church of New Amsterdam.  Wit.:  Cornelis Tienhoven,
		"Secretaris", Jan Janszen dam, Philip Graer, and Maria Philips
		Abt. 1665 in Bushwyck, Kings Co., Long Island, NY, he mar.
		ANNETJE PHILLIPS, who had no birth or baptismal record and was
		b. abt. 1645 in the Netherlands, a dau. of Philip Langelan.
		Volkert worked the 200 acres he contracted and later received
		from his father, from the age of 22.  He was assessed taxes for
		200 acres in 1683, and sold some of the land in 1685 to Peter
		Praa.  He was listed in village records in 1687, but was
		deceased prior to the census in 1698.  Annetje died abt. 1700 in
		Bushwyck.

	    6.  ARIAENTJE VOLKERTSEN, was bap. 21 Aug. 1650 at the Reformed
		Dutch Church of New Amsterdam.  Wit.:  Jan Vigne, Claes Corszen,
		Lysbeth Criegers, and Aefje Van Tienhoven.  Abt. 1675 she mar.
		CHARLES HOUSMAN.  Charles poss. mar. as his second wife
		Hendriktie (Arentse ?).

	    7.  JANNEKEN VOLKERTSEN, was bap. 7 Dec. 1653 at the Reformed Dutch
		Church of New Amsterdam.  Wit.:  Abraham Planck, Pieter Janszen
		Noorman, and Marritie Abrahams.  On 24 Oct. 1674 at the Reformed
		Dutch Church of New York (with license dated 7 Oct. 1674) she
		mar. PIETER SCHAMP.  She was recorded in the marriage record as
		"j.d. Van Noortmans Kill", and he as "Soldaet, j.m. Van Gendt."

	    8.  JACOB VOLKERTSEN, had no birth or baptismal record.  He died
		bet. 1687 and 1698.

    Notes:  Cornelis, the Provisional Secretary of the Colony of New Amsterdam.
	    first appeared in New Netherlands in Apr. 1633 as "Bookkeeper of
	    Wages."  Shortly after the arrival of Willem Kieft in the Colony,
	    Cornelis was chosen to fill the office of provincial.  Cornelis was
	    a witness to the marriage contract between Domine Everhardus
	    Bogardus and Anneke Jans.  He witnessed the following wills:  Barent
	    Dircksen Van Norden (8 Mar. 1642), Jan Bartram (June 1642), Jacob
	    Jacobse Roy (19 May 1643), and Jan Celes (17 Apr. 1645).

	    All children were baptised at the Reformed Dutch Church of New York.

 Children:  1.  JANNETJE VAN TIENHOVEN, was bap. 10 June 1646.  Wit.:  De Hr.
		Willem Kieft, gouvneur, Adriane Nuvielle, and Jannetje Adriaens.
		She died young.

	    2.  LUCAS VAN TIENHOVEN, was bap. 17 Jan. 1649.  Wit.:  Jan Janszen
		Damen, Adriaen Van Tienhoven, and Adriaentie Kuypers.  He mar.
		as his first wife TRYNTJE BORDINGS, who was bap. 5 Nov. 1651 at
		the Reformed Dutch Church of New York (wit.:  Pieter Wolfertszen,
		Pieter Jacobszen marius, and Hester Simons), a dau. of Claes
		Bording and Susanna Lewis.  He mar. as his second wife KATHARINE
		MAN. In 1695 he was recorded as having ten children by his first
		wife with eight still living.   The will of Luycas Van
		Thienhoven, of New York, surgeon, was dated 15 Apr. 1706 and
		proved 30 Apr. 1714.  In it he left to his son Nicholas "all
		that my house and lot, situate, and being in the city of New
		York, fronting to Dock street, bounded west by house and ground
		of Angeltie Burgers, north by Hendrick Ten Broeck, east by
		Christopher Beekman, south by the street.  Nicholas was to pay
		his sisters Susanah, Cornelia, Sara, and Elizabeth, and the two
		daughters of his deceased sister Rachel, wife of Johanes
		Dumarteere, £80.  He left his son Cornelius his house "fronting
		to Smith street, in which I now dwell, with the lot of land on
		which it stands, being 28 feet front, and in length to the land
		of Colonel Stephen Van Cortlandt."  He was to pay his sisters
		£40.  His daughter Susanah Wessels was bequeathed "a lot of
		land fronting to Little Queen street, to the west of Jacob
		Harse, 23 feet in front, and in length half the distance to King
		Street."  His daughter Elizabeth received "a lot next south to
		the given to my son Cornelius, 24 feet to the above, and of same
		dimensions."  His daughter Sarah was left "a lot of the same
		dimensions on the south side of the lot of Phillip Daille."  His
		wife Katharine was to have the use of all the estates during her
		life, and after payment of debts all the rest to the children.
		His wife, son Nicholas, brother-in-law Adrian Man, and kinsman
		William Huddlestone, were made executors, with full power to
		sell.  Witnesses were Joost Paldinck, Dirck Benson, and Samuel
		Benson.

	    3.  CORNELIS VAN TIENHOVEN, was bap. 12 Jan. 1653.  Wit.:  Cornelis
		Van Werckhoven, Brion Nuton, Capt., and Sara Roelofs.

	    4.  JOHANNES VAN TIENHOVEN, was bap. 1 Jan. 1655.  Wit.:  Jan Vigne
		and Maria Vigne.

	    5.  JANNETJE VAN TIENHOVEN, was bap. 20 May 1657.  Wit.:  Olof
		Stephenszen Van Courtlt, Pieter Stoutenburg, Tyrntie Rodenburg
		and Marritie Varrevanger.  She mar. JOHN SMITH.

    Notes:  Jan married Weiske with banns published 15 Feb. 1682 at the Reformed
	    Dutch Church of New York.  She was the widow of Andries Andrieszen.

	    John Vigné (or Vinge) of New York wrote his will prior to 7 Jan.
	    1689/90, the date letters of administration were granted to the
	    executors.  It mentions in part the following:  "In the name of God,
	    Amen.  Know all men whom it may concerne, that I, underwritten John
	    Vigne, dwelling within this city of New York, considering the mortality
	    of men."   I leave to my cousin Gerritt Jansen Roos, £56 as a legacy
	    before any division is made.  "I leave to Emmerantie Provost, daughter
	    of Elias Provoost, procreated by Cornelia Roos, a parcel of ground,
	    lying without the Wall of this city, in ye New Lots in ye street called
	    Thienhoven street, whereof I have sold the first lot to Johannes
	    Ellsworth, the second to Peter Pangborn, and this lot being the third
	    lot in order and must be broad in front at the street and after, 25
	    Dutch wood feet, and long to the ground, granted to the late Governor
	    Thomas Dongan."  With this express condition that if she die in her
	    minority, then it is to go to her sister Aeltie, and if she die, then to
	    her brother Johanes.  If he die, then to his brother Gerrit, and if he
	    die in his minority, then to his mother Cornelia Roos, who has the power
	    to sell it.  The remainder of the estate is left in 6 shares.  To the
	    children of my deceased sister Maria Ver Planck, the children of my
	    deceased sister Christina Dircksen, the children of my deceased sister
	    Rachel Van Thienhoven,  Harme De Wolf, the children of Claas Wouterse
	    Visser and the children of Aeltie Lamberts Wolf, on the express
	    conditions that the three last shares, viz. Harme De Wolf, and the
	    children of Claas Wouterse Visser, and the children of Aeltie Lamberts
	    Wolf, shall be in room of 100 guilders made to them by the testament of
	    my deceased wife, Emmerantie Van der Sluys, in case they will accept for
	    it, which is left to their free choice.  I leave to my cousin Isaac
	    Ver Planck, my black cloth coat, and to my cousin Johannes Roos, my coat
	    with silver buttons.  And to the end that this my last will may be
	    better performed, I have nominated and appointed my three cousins Geritt
	    Jansen Roos, Lucas Van Thienhoven, and Johanes Roos, executors.  "These
	    present I declare to be my last will and testament, desiring ye same may
	    be irrevocable.  J. Vinge."  Witnesses:  Johanes Kip, Wm. Bogardus,
	    Notary Public.  Recorded in the Book of Wills, Per me Abraham
	    Gouverneur, Clerk.  The will was proved 10 December 1689 and Gerritt
	    Jansen Roos, Lucas Van Tienhoven and Johanes Roos were confirmed as
	    executors, 18 January 1689/90.  An inventory of goods and estate of John
	    Vigne, who died in this city the 21 of December, 1689, and taken by us,
	    Geritt Jansen Roose, Lucas Van Thienhoven, together with John Roose,
	    absent, living at Albany, 30 December 1689.  A Parcel of land lying in
	    the Clack Hook, by the Fresh water, £60.  A Parcel of land lying without
	    the Fortifications of the city of New York, £140; 1 ditto garden; 1
	    ditto Bastine (?), £120; 1 Silver beaker, engraved with the name of
	    Guysbert Lamberts, £1.10s.  Double Gold Ducat, £1.5s.  Total:
	    £352.2s.4p.

 Children:  1.  JOHANNES VIGNÉ, was bap. 10 May 1646 at Utrecht.  Wit.:  None. He
		died young.

	    2.  JOHANNES VIGNÉ, was bap. 29 Sept. 1647 at Utrecht.  Wit.:  None.
		He may have died young.

	    3.  GOSENS VIGNÉ, was bap. 1 Jan. 1649 at Buurkerk in Utrecht.  Wit.:
		None.  In May 1669 he received a travel pass to go to Amsterdam
		on the ship King Charles.  He was back in New York by 4 Sept.
		1673 on which date he joined the Reformed Dutch Church of New
		York.
