Church of New York. Wit.: David de Mareetz and Maria de
Mareetz. With banns published On 24 Apr. 1697 at the Reformed
Dutch Church of Hackensack he mar. SARA BERTHOLF, who was bap.
8 Apr. 1677 in Sluis, Walcheren, Netherlands, a dau. of Rev.
Guiliam Bertholf and Martyntie Hendriekse Vermeulen. He was b.
in New Haarlem, and she was b. in Sluys, Vlaanderen, according
to marriage records. David was High Sheriff of Bergen Co., NJ,
in 1714; Justice of the Peace in 1721, 1722, 1738, and 1744; and
Judge of the Court of Pleas and Quorums in 1738-1739. He was a
member of the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th Provisional
Assemblies of New Jersey from 1738 to 1746. He was also one of
the two representatives of the Bergen County Board of
Freeholders. David was a large landowner in Bergen and Essex
Counties and died in 1759. Rachel died in 1758 and both ahe and
her husband were buried in the French Burying Ground. David's
will was written 8 Nov. 1758 and probated 4 Mar. 1760.
2. PIETER DEMAREST, was bap. 21 Apr. 1677 at the Reformed Dutch
Church of New York. Wit.: Pieter and Rachel Croison. He died
young.
3. SUSANNA DEMAREST, was bap. 4 Apr. 1679 at the Reformed Dutch
Church of Bergen. Wit.: Jan De-mare and Susan Cerson. With
banns published 22 Apr. 1704 at the Reformed Dutch Church of
Hackensack she mar. as her first husband PIETER LUBBERTSE
WESTERVELT, who was bap. 18 Apr. 1682 at the Reformed Dutch
Church of Bergen (wit.: Roelof Lubbertse and Mareya Lubbers),
a son of Lubbert Lubbertse Westervelt and Hilletje Poulouse.
Both were recorded as having been b, in Hackensack. She mar. as
her second husband WILLEM TELLER.
4. RACHEL DEMAREST, was bap. 21 June 1680 at the Reformed Dutch
Church of Bergen. Wit.: Pieter Cerson and Ragel Cerson. With
banns published 31 Aug. 1700 at the Reformed Dutch Church of
Hackensack she mar. as his first wife ANDRIES JANSE VAN ORDEN, who
had no birth or baptismal record and was b. abt. 1678 in New
York City, a son of Jan Pieterse Van Norden and Elizabeth Rees.
He was b. in New York and she was b. in Hackensack according to
marriage records. Rachel died prior to 12 Aug. 1710 on which
date Andries mar. as his second wife Antje Laroe.
5. JACOBUS DEMAREST, was bap. 30 Oct. 1681 at the Reformed Dutch
Church of Flatbush. Wit.: Jacobus Cierson and Maria De Ruine.
With banns published 8 Mar. 1707 at the Reformed Dutch Church of
Hackensack he mar. as his first wife LEA DEGROOT, who was bap.
16 Jan. 1687 at the Reformed Dutch Church of New York (wit.:
Jan Jacobszen and Grietje Ariens), a dau. of Pieter Jacobus
DeGroot and Belitje Van Schaick. He was b. in Hackensack and
she was b. at the Bowery, on the Bay, according to their
marriage record. Lea died 3 Dec. 1718. With banns published 26
Sept. 1719 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Hackensack he mar. as
his second wife MARGRIETJE HARING, who was b. 12 Apr. 1700 and
bap. 17 Apr. 1700 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Tappen (wit.:
Pieter Haringh and Grietje Cowyne), a dau. of Cozine Haring and
Maria Blauvelt. She was recorded as having been b. and then
living in Tappen at the time of her marriage. Jacobus died 24
Mar. 1763 and Margrietje died 3 Feb. 1789, and both were buried
in South Schraalenburg, NJ.
6. SAMUEL DEMAREST, had no birth or baptismal record and was b.
abt. 1683. With banns published 21 Apr. 1705 at the Reformed
Dutch Church of Hackensack he mar. SIESKE SIBESE BANTA, who was
bap. 5 Oct. 1685 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Bergen (wit.:
Symon Jacobse and Mareya Lubberse), a dau. of Siba Epke Banta
and Marytie Ariaens. Both were recorded as being from
Hackensack at the time of their marriage. Samuel died prior to
1728. Sieske died aft. 1728.
7. DANIEL DEMAREST, was b. 1 Feb. 1685 according to bible records.
With banns published 2 Aug. 1707 at the Reformed Dutch Church of
Hackensack he mar. REBECCA DEGROOT, who was bap. 11 Feb. 1685 at
the Church at the Bay, Bowery, New York City, a dau. of Pieter
Jacobus DeGroot and Belitje Van Schaick. According to marriage
records, he was b. in Hackensack, she was b. on the Bowery, and
both were living in Hackensack at the time of their marriage.
Daniel died 30 Mar. 1767 and Rebecca died 16 Sept. 1764.
8. MARY DEMAREST, had no birth or baptismal record and was b. abt.
1687. With banns published 27 Apr. 1706 at the Reformed Dutch
Church of Hackensack she mar. as her first husband WIERT BANTA,
who was bap. 19 Aug. 1682 at the Reformed Dutch Church of New
York (wit.: Jilles Janszen and Elsje Jilles), a son of Wiert
Epkens Banta and Gerritie Mandeville. According to marriage
records, both were b. and then living in Hackensack at the time
of their marriage. He died 13 Sept. 1741 and his will was dated
20 Jan. 1732. On 13 June 1752 in Clarkstown, NY, she poss. mar.
as her second husband JACOB CORNELL.
9. LYDIA DEMAREST, had no birth or baptismal record and was b. abt.
1689. With banns published 18 Oct. 1707 at the Reformed Dutch
Church of Hackensack STEVEN ALBERTSE TERHUNE, who was b. 4 Apr.
1680 and bap. 18 Apr. 1680 at the Reformed Dutch Church of
Flatbush (wit.: Lucas Stevens V.V. and Stintie Alberts), a son
of Albert Albertse Terhune and Hendrickje Stevense Van Voorhees.
He was recorded as having been b. in New Amersfoort, she as
having been b. in Hackensack, and both then living in Hackensack
at the time of their marriage.
10. BENJAMIN DEMAREST, had no birth or baptismal record and was b.
abt. 1691. With banns published 7 Nov. 1713 at the Reformed
Dutch Church of Hackensack he mar. ELIZABETH DEGROOT, who was
bap. 20 Feb. 1695 at the Church at the Bay, Bowery, New York
City, a dau. of Pieter Jacobus DeGroot and Belitje Van Schaick.
According to marriage records, he had been b. in Bergen Co., she
in Siapenicke, and both then living in Bergen Co., at the time
of their marriage. Benjamin was living in 1784 as he was named
in the Quit Claim mentioned under Peter Demarest (his son) which
referred to a prior agreement.

May 1690 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Brooklyn (wit.:
Cornelis Wynhart and Maria Careles), a dau. of Joost DeBaun and
Elizabeth Drabbe. According to their marriage record, he had
been b. in Hackensack, she in N. Utrecht, and both then living
in Hackensack. They joined the Reformed Dutch Church of New
York 25 May 1752. Mayke died 26 Oct. 1752 in New York City, NY.

With banns published 1 Dec. 1722 at the Reformed Dutch Church of
Hackensack he mar. VROUTIE CORNELISSE HARING, who was bap. 24
June 1702 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Tappen (wit.: Cozyn
Haeringh and Brechtje Haeringh), a dau. of Cornelis Haring and
Catherina Flierboom. According to their marriage record, he had
been b. and was then living in Hackensack, and she had been b.
and was then living in Tappen at the time of their marriage.
In his will, Simon Demarest gave to his wife Vroutie the use of
his real and personal property while she remained a widow. To
his son Samuel he left 28 shillings, also £60 to be paid from
the sale of personal estate -- if not enough, it must be made up
by the other sons. Cornelis was to have land at Kinderkamack
bought of David Ackerman. Jacob to have land "where my
improvements are on which I live." Daniel being lame was to
have his loom and a Negro boy to do his work. Daniel, John,
Petrus and David were to have land at Kinderkamack bought of
Nicolas Ackerman. Catalyte wife of Seba Banta and Maria wife of
Nicholas Ackerman were each to have £60. His wife and his two
eldest sons are made executors.

wife. On 14 Oct. 1726 at the Reformed Dutch Church of

as his second wife JACOBUS PEEK, widower of Sara Cornelise
Banta, who was bap. 21 July 1697 at the Reformed Dutch Church of
New York (wit.: Luykas Kierstede and Rachel Kip, "s:h: vrouw"),
a son of Johannes Peek and Elizabeth Van Imburgh.

BUSKIRK, who was bap. 28 Oct. 1705 "at Hackinsack in the house
of Cornelius Van Hoorn, b. at Hackinsack in the week before the
20th Sunday after Trinity, Oct. 1705" and recorded at the
Lutheran Church of New York City (wit.: the Father), a son of
Laurens Van Buskirk and Hendrickje Van der Linde.
