No birth record has been found for Samuel Washburn but his
parentage is shown by the will of his father, John Washburn,
dated 10/30/1686 and naming son Samuel, with other children. In
a deed, dated Jan 9, 1677, recorded April 26, 1720, John
Washburn Sr. of Bridgewater, planter, with the consent of his
wife Elizabeth, gave 35 acres of land in Bridgewater to his son
Samuel.
The will of Samuel Washburn of Bridgewater, yeoman, dated March
13, 1720, probated April 4, 1720, names wife Deborah Washburn,
sons Samuel, Nehehiah and Benjamin; heirs of son Noah Washburne,
deceased; heirs of his son Israel Washburne deceased; daughter
Hannah wife of John Keith; grandson Israel Washburn son of son
Israel; and cousin Deliverance Jennings wife of Ephriam
Jennings.
Samuel Washburn's tombstone still stands in the old cemetery in Bridgewater
Samuel Washburn's tombstone. The stone reads: "Hear lies the Bodi of
Mr. Samuel Washburn who departed this Life March the 24th A. Dom. 1720 in
the 69 [59?] year of his Age."

"Samuel Washburne of Bridgwater .... (yeoman)" made his
will on 13 March, 1720. Bequests were as follows:
To "wife Deborah Washburne the Improvement of the Easter
ly End of my now dwelling house and Shop and Cellar with
the one half of the Incomes or profit of my homested or
homeliving during her Natural Life or Widowhood In Case
Shee Shall not marrey Again also I give unto her One third
part of all my moveable Estate and Also my oxen Cart
and Wheels and all my Other husbandry tackling my will
is shall be part of her sd Third"
To "my Son Samuel Washburne no Lands having alredy by
Deed of Gift given him his homested or homeliving and a
Lot of Land Lying by Josiah Washburns that being his
part of my real Estate in my first Devision that I make
of it"
To "the heirs of my Son Noah Washburne deceased nothing
having by a Deed of Gift alredy Given them their part
or portion of Lands & other Estate"
To "the heirs of my Son Israel Washburn deceased the
Improvement of the Westerly End of my now dwelling
house with the Improvement of the one half of my
homested or homeliving During the Natural Life of my
wife Deborah having Given to their father a Deed of
Gift of my homested after after my decease and the
Decease of my wife Deborah"
To "my Son Nehemiah nothing In this first devision
having given him by Deed his full part of my Estate In
this Devision"
To "my Son Benjamin Washburne his heirs & assigns all
that tract of Land on which he now dwelleth being about
fourty Eight Rods wide Joining at one End partly upon
the great river and partly to the Lands of mr Kieth deceasd
butting upon the four Mile Line also my upland right
In the meadow right and half my right In the Cedar Swamp
having by deed of Gift Given my son Nehemiah the other
half of my right In the Cedar Swamp"
To "My Daughter Hannah wife of John Kieth .... one full
half of all my moveable Estate both within doors and
without"
To "My Grandson Israel Washburn son of my son Israel Washburn
deceased Twenty shillings to be paid ....
to his Guardian for him"
To "My Cousin Deliverance Jennings wife to Ephraim Jennings

Sons Samuel Washburn and Nehemiah Washburn were
appointed executors.
"all my wareing Cloathes of all sorts be Equaly divided
betwen my three sons Samuel Washburne Nehemiah Washburne
and Benjamin Washburne before aney devision be made"
"whatsoever Shall appear to be in my Estate Either real or
personal after this devision shall be Made shall be
Equaly divided betwen my three sons Samuel Washburne
Nehemiah Washburne Benjamin Washburne and my daughter
Hannah Kieth"
The will was signed by a mark. The witnesses were Benjamin
Allen, Eleazer Carver and William Orcut, the last one
signing by a mark. On 4 April, 1720, the will was
probated, the three witnesses being present.
On the back of the will is endorsed: "Serjant Washburns
Will" [The will is also recorded, 4: 217.]
[From the original on file] On 30 March, 1720, "The
Inventory of the Moveable Estate; of Mr Samuel Washburn
, of Bridgwater .... Who Deceased march ye twenty-fourth
. 1719/20" was taken by Josiah Edson, Joseph Pratt and
John Field.
On 4 April, 1720, Samuel Washburn and Nehemiah Washburn,
the executors, made oath to the inventory. [The inventory
